Temple of Confucius | China

Confucius was a Chinese philosopher and politician. The Temple of Confucius in Qufu, Shandong Province, is the largest and most renowned temple of Confucius in East Asia. Built to commemorate him in 478 B.C., the temple has been destroyed and reconstructed over the centuries; today it comprises more than 100 buildings.

Temple and Cemetery of Confucius and the Kong Family Mansion in Qufu is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Changu Narayan Temple | Nepal

The ancient Hindu temple of Changu Narayan is located in Bhaktapur District in Nepal. It is part of UNESCO World Heritage site Kathmandu Valley.

The cultural heritage of the Kathmandu Valley is illustrated by seven groups of monuments and buildings which display the full range of historic and artistic achievements for which the Kathmandu Valley is world famous.

The seven groups of monuments and buildings include:
- Durbar Squares of Hanuman Dhoka (Kathmandu), Patan and Bhaktapur
- the Buddhist stupas of Swayambhu and Bauddhanath
- and the Hindu temples of Pashupati and Changu Narayan

Kedarnath Temple | India

Kedarnath Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Located in the far north of Inida, on the Garhwal Himalayan range. Due to extreme weather conditions, the temple is open only between the end of April to November. Imagine the mountains in the background covered with snow!

Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests | China

The Temple of Heaven is an imperial complex of religious buildings situated in the southeastern part of central Beijing. The temple complex was constructed from 1406 to 1420 during the reign of the Yongle Emperor, who was also responsible for the construction of the Forbidden City in Beijing.

The postcard shows the interior of the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests. The building is completely wooden, with no nails. The original building was burned down by a fire caused by lightning in 1889. The current building was re-built several years after the incident.

Temple of Heaven is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Sacred City of Kandy | Sri Lanka

Kandy is a mountain city in Sri Lanka. was home to the Sinhalese kings from 1592 to 1815. It is also the site of Sri Dalada Maligawa, also called the Temple of the Tooth, as a special container holds a tooth of the Buddha. Over the years, the relic came to be very important politically; the belief was that the holder of the sacred tooth was the one who would have power over the Buddhist population.

Sacred City of Kandy is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Mount Qingcheng | China

Dujiangyan is a city in Sichuan province of China. Located near the city is Mount Qingcheng, birthplace of Taoism, which is celebrated in a series of ancient temples.
 
Mount Qingcheng and the Dujiangyan Irrigation System is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Qingcheng Mountains lie only about 10 km from the Dujiangyan Irrigation System.

Temple of Wat Chang Lom | Thailand

The Si Satchanalai Historical Park is a historical park in Sukhothai Province, northern Thailand.

Wat Chang Lom is a large Buddhist temple in the central zone of Si Satchanalai Historical Park. Its name translates to “temple surrounded by elephants”.  The main bell-shaped Chedi of Wat Chang Lom is skirted by 32 elephant sculptures positioned in a manner that they appear to be supporting the whole building.

Si Satchanalai  is one of the three locations of UNESCO World Heritage site Historic Town of Sukhothai and Associated Historic Towns.

Vat Phu (meaning 'mountain temple') is a ruined Khmer Hindu temple complex in Champasak province, southern Laos. This well-preserved planned landscape is more than 1,000 years old.

This UNESCO World Heritage site is inscribed under the name: Vat Phou and Associated Ancient Settlements within the Champasak Cultural Landscape.

Seokguram Grotto | South Korea

The Seokguram Grotto is an artificial grotto constructed of granite that contains a monumental statue of the Buddha. The temple was constructed between 751 and 774.

Together with Bulguksa Temple, Seokguram Grotto is a Unesco World Heritage site.

Mahabodhi Temple | India

The 4.8-hectare temple complex also includes ancient shrines and modern structures built by Buddhist devotees. Pilgrims from all over the globe come to visit this spiritual place.

The Mahabodhi Temple Complex at Bodh Gaya is a Unesco World Heritage site.

Wannian Temple | China

On Mount Emei, there are over 30 temples, ten of them large and very old; they are in local traditional style and most are built on hillsides.

The Wannian Temple, meaning "Temple with Thousands of Years of History" in Chinese, is one of the main temples. Inside this temple you find many Buddhist  statues.

Mount Emei Scenic Area, including Leshan Giant Buddha Scenic Area is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Ġgantija temples | Malta

The Ġgantija temples can be found on Gozo, Malta's second largest island. The temples are part of the UNESCO World Heritage site Megalithic Temples of Malta.

These Temples are prehistoric monumental buildings constructed during the 3th and 4th millennium BC. They rank amongst the earliest free-standing stone buildings in the world.

Archeological site of Paestum | Italy

Paestum was a major ancient Greek city on the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea in Magna Graecia (southern Italy). The ruins of Paestum are famous for their three ancient Greek dating from about 600 to 450 BC. The card shows the second temple of Hera.

Paestum is part of Unesco World Heritage site inscribed under the name Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park with the Archeological Sites of Paestum and Velia, and the Certosa di Padula.

Shore Temple, Mahabalipuram | India

The Shore Temple (built in 700–728 AD) overlooks the shore of the Bay of Bengal, hence its name. It is a structural temple, built with blocks of granite, dating from the 8th century AD.

The temple is part of the Unesco World Heritage site Group of Monuments at Mahabalipuram.

The Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Phrakaew) are located on Rattanakosin island, the heart of Old Bangkok city. The Emerald Buddha is a dark green statue, approximately 66 centimetres tall, carved from a single jade stone.

Wat Phra Kaew is located inside the Grand Palace complex, undoubtedly Bangkok’s most famous landmark. Built in 1782 - and for 150 years the home of the Thai King.

Temple of Abu Simbel | Egypt

The Abu Simbel temples are two massive rock temples at Abu Simbel, a village in Nubia, southern Egypt, near the border with Sudan.

Built more than 3,000 years ago, to honor Pharaoh Rameses II and his queen Nefertari. The site was moves completely in the early 60’s because it was threatened by the construction of the Aswan Dam.

Ancient city of Bagan | Myanmar

Bagan is an ancient city located in the Mandalay Region of  Myanmar. From the 9th to 13th centuries, the city was the capital of the Kingdom of Pagan. Bagan has an overwhelming number of 2,000 monuments, covering an area of 16 square miles. Bagan is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
