The red flag of North Vietnam was later adopted as the flag of the unified Vietnam in 1976.

Thien Mu Pagoda | Viet Nam

The Pagoda of the Celestial Lady (Thien Mu Pagoda) is a historic temple in the city of Huế in Vietnam. Its iconic seven-story pagoda is regarded as the unofficial symbol of the city.

The pagoda is one of the 14 component parts of UNESCO World Heritage site Complex of Hué Monuments.

One of the most spectacular landscapes in the world | Vietnam

Sa Pa is a town in northwest Vietnam not far from the Chinese border. The rice terrace fields, among the most popular tourist attractions in Vietnam, can be found in the Muong Hoa valley between Sa Pa town and the Fansipan Mountain.

Local mountain people grow rice and corn on these paddy terraces, along with vegetables. Because of the climate, only one rice crop a year can be produced.

In 2015 hundreds of artefacts dating back to the 10th century have been discovered in Vinh Long commune, about 1 km southeast of the Ho Dynasty Citadel.

Phong Nha-Kẻ Bang National Park | Vietnam

Phong Nha-Kẻ Bang is a national park and UNESCO World Heritage Site in the North Central Coast region of Vietnam, about 500 km south of Hanoi. The park is noted for its 300 caves and grotto systems.

The Hang Tien, or Fairy Cave, is famed for its enormous size and spectacular formations.

The Imperial Citadel of Thang Long | Vietnam

The Thang Long Imperial Citadel was built in the 11th century by the Ly Viet Dynasty. It was constructed on the remains of a Chinese fortress dating from the 7th century. The centre of regional political power for almost 13 centuries without interruption.

On the card you see the 33 m tall Hanoi Flag Tower, built in 1812 as an observation post to the Hanoi Citadel.

Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex | Vietnam

The Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex is a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2014. This is a spectacular landscape of limestone karst peaks and  valleys, many of them partly submerged and surrounded by steep cliffs. The property also contains temples, pagodas, paddy-fields and small villages.

Founded in 1967, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has 10 member states today: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.  All the flags are in the symbol on the stamp.

The goal of this organization is to accelerate economic growth, social progress, and cultural development among its members and to promote regional peace.

Hanoi, meaning ‘between two rivers’ is the capital of Vietnam and the country's second largest city. The city is situated in northern Vietnam on the western bank of the Red River.

Ho Chi Minh City is the largest city of Vietnam. Once started as a small fishing village. Today a bustling metropolis with 8 million inhabitants.

My Son Sanctuary Viet Nam

Mỹ Sơn is a cluster of abandoned and partially ruined Hindu temples constructed between the 4th and the 14th century AD by the kings of Champa. The temples are dedicated to the worship of the god Shiva.

The Mỹ Sơn Sanctuary is a large complex of religious monuments originally consisting of more than 70 structures of which 25 remain today. My Son was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999.

According to the back of the postcard this is a Hà Tây Country market.  Hà Tây is a former province of Vietnam, in the Red River Delta, now part of Hanoi. 

The traditional market is still the major channel of retail In Vietnam, dating back more than a thousand years since the very first urban areas arose and society went into an organized structure under the rule of dynasties. There are approximately 9000 traditional markets nationwide and up to 80% of all retail sales are conducted through these traditional channels.

(left) This plant, Plumeria obtusa, is commonly known as Frangipani and is grown for its flowers. In Vietnam the Frangipani is also used for its healing qualities: the bark, mashed in alcohol, prevents skin inflammation, it is also used to treat indigestion and high blood pressure.

Vietnam ancient town of Hội An

Hoi An is an ancient town in Vietnam that used to be a 16th century merchant trading port named Faifo. The town is a special example of a traditional trading port in South-East Asia which has been completely preserved: it is the only town in Viet Nam that has survived intact in this way. It was fortunate to escape the destruction caused by the wars

In 1999, UNESCO formally recognized Hoi An as a World Heritage Site.

Ngo Mon of Hue, Vietnam

The city of Hue served as the administrative centre of southern Vietnam (Dang Trong) in the 17th century and again in the 18th century.

Ngo Mon was constructed in 1833 during the reign of Emperor Minh Mang. Ngo Mon is the gate and leads to the Imperial Palace. It was the observation point for the Emperor to review his troops and for ceremonial use.

Vietnam has a long coast of 3,444 kilometers. With its long coastline, Vietnam has an active fishing sector. There are many fishing techniques or methods for catching fish. Fishing techniques include hand gathering, spearfishing, netting, angling and trapping.

Vietnam Water Buffaloes

The water buffalo is common in the southern regions of Vietnam. It is a large black animal with huge curving horns. The buffalo are domesticated and peasants use them as draft animals.

By comparison, the people are small, some hardly taller than their animals. Yet even the littlest child can lead a buffalo about by means of a metal ring in the animals' nose. To see them ambling slowly down the road, urged on by the occasional slap of a stick, you would think them the most gentle and peaceful of animals.

Rampaging water buffalo wreaks havoc in Vietnamese village

A water buffalo injured 10 people in central Vietnam while rampaging down crowded streets, across a river and through a house before being gunned down at a kindergarten, an official said Monday.

The ao dai is now standard for weddings, for celebrating Tết and for other formal occasions. A plain white ao dai is a common high school school uniform in the whole country. Companies often require their female staff to wear uniforms that include the ao dai, so flight attendants, receptionists, restaurant staff, and hotel workers in Vietnam may be seen wearing it.
