Church Vasiliya na gorke | Russia

Pskov is one of the oldest cities in Russia. Located about 20 kilometers from the Estonian border, on the Velikaya River.

Churches of the Pskov School of Architecture is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Characteristics of these buildings, produced by the Pskov School of Architecture, include cubic volumes, domes, porches and belfries, with the oldest elements dating back to the 12th century. Onde of these churches is Church Vasiliya na gorke (St. Basil the Great on the hill).

Yuanyang Rice Terraces | China

The Yuanyang Rice Terraces are located on the southern slopes of Ailao Mountain in Yuanyang County (part of Honghe Hani Autonomous Prefecture) and in the south of Yunnan Province.

The Hani people's ancestors came to this steep mountain area 2,500 years ago. In their struggle against the difficult terrain they successfully established the terraces, where they grew rice in order to make a living.

Cultural Landscape of Honghe Hani Rice Terraces is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Midway Atoll | United States Minor Outlying Islands

Midway Atoll is located on the far northern end of the Hawaiian archipelago. It is one the oldest atoll formations in the world that provides nesting habitat for millions of seabirds.

The Laysan duck once lived across the entire archipelago. But by 1860, the ducks had disappeared from everywhere except Laysan Island. In an effort to ensure the long-term future of this duck, 42 birds were translocated to Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge in 2002. These thrived in their new surroundings, and another group were later relocated to Kure Atoll.

The postcard was sent from Wake Island, like Midway Atoll, part of UNESCO World Heritage site Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument.

Jaipur City | India

Jaipur City, Rajasthan is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The fortified city of Jaipur, in India’s north-western state of Rajasthan was founded in 1727 by Sawai Jai Singh II. Unlike other cities in the region located in hilly terrain, Jaipur was established on the plain and built according to a grid plan interpreted in the light of Vedic architecture.

The most prominent gate you see on this card is Galta Gate. Actually just outside the boundaries of the Unesco site. The gate in the middle of the card is the Suraj Pol Gate, referred to as 'Gate' on the Unesco map. One of the entry gates of this world heritage sites.

Müritz National Park | Germany

Ancient and Primeval Beech Forests of the Carpathians and Other Regions of Europe is a UNESCO World Heritage site. This transboundary property stretches over 78 locations in 12 countries. Five of these are located in Germany.

The five forests are Jasmund National Park and the Serrahner beech forest in the Müritz National Park, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the Grumsin beech forest in Brandenburg, the Hainich National Park in Thuringia and the Kellerwald-Edersee National Park in Hesse.

The victory of “The Liberator,” Simón Bolívar, at the Battle of Boyacá on August 7, 1819, assured the independence of Colombia, and in December of that year Colombia adopted as its national flag the horizontal tricolour of yellow, blue, and red under which Bolívar fought.

Upper Caravanserai in Sheki | Azerbaijan

Sheki is one of Azerbaijan's most picturesque towns, filled with cobbled streets and medieval architecture.

The Upper caravanserai is a historical monument in Sheki dating back to the 18th century.  It was used by merchants to store their goods in cellars, who traded on the first floor, and lived on the second.

Sheki is located at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, bordered by the Caspian Sea and the Caucasus Mountains. It was an important thoroughfare on the Silk Road, the ancient web of trade routes linking East and West.

Historic Centre of Sheki with the Khan’s Palace is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Golden Island | France

Golden Island, or L’Ile d’Or as the French say, is a small rocky island  near the city of Saint-Raphaël in southern France.

Doctor Auguste Lutaud acquired this island in the late 1800's. He declared himself “August the 1st”, sovereign of the island. He had the red rock tower built according to the unusual Sarasin architecture.
