These include Fallingwater (Mill Run, Pennsylvania), the Herbert and Katherine Jacobs House (Madison, Wisconsin) and the Guggenheim Museum (New York).

Chan Chan Archaeological Zone | Peru

The Chimu Kingdom, with Chan Chan as its capital, reached its apogee in the 15th century, not long before falling to the Incas. The Chimú civilization was considered to be one of the most prosperous cultures and largest empires in the history of the Andes.

The ruins of Chan Chan, which cover nearly 14 square miles, are in fairly good condition because the area is usually rainless. The building material used was adobe brick, and the buildings were finished with mud frequently adorned with patterned relief arabesques.

Chan Chan Archaeological Zone is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Historic Cairo | Egypt

The Citadel of Salah ad-Din is a medieval Islamic-era fortification in Cairo, Egypt. It was the seat of government in Egypt and the residence of its rulers for nearly 700 years from the 13th to the 19th centuries.

The Mosque of Ibn Tulun is located in Cairo, Egypt. Completed in 879, it is the oldest mosque in the city surviving in its original form, and is the largest mosque in Cairo in terms of land area.

Historic Cairo is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Both the citadel area and the Mosque of Ibn Tulun are part of this site.

Holy Island Northumberland | United Kingdom

The Holy Island of Lindisfarne, also known simply as Holy Island, is a tidal island off the northeast coast of England. It is located in the part of England called Northumbria, once a medieval Anglian kingdom.

The island is home to a population of less than 200 and is connected to the mainland by a causeway that is cut off twice a day by the tides. Lindisfarne Castle is a 16th-century castle located on Holy Island, sited atop the volcanic mound known as Beblowe Craig.

Tambo island is an uninhabited island located in the middle of the Pontevedra estuary. With a size of only 0,28 square kilometers it is very small island. Its highest peak is 80 meters. 

Querétaro Aqueduct | Mexico

The 75-arched stone aqueduct of Santiago de Querétaro, which crosses over the Pan-American Highway at one point, supplied the city with drinking water well into the 20th century. To this day it still supplies water to the fountains scattered about Querétaro's old city.

Island of Saint-Louis | Senegal

Founded as a French colonial settlement in the 17th century, Saint-Louis was urbanised in the mid-19th century. It was the capital of Senegal from 1872 to 1957 and played an important cultural and economic role in the whole of West Africa.

At the bottom of the card you see Faidherbe Bridge over the Sénégal River, connecting the island of Saint-Louis to the African mainland.

Island of Saint-Louis is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Stevns Klint | Denmark



Postcard
Stevns Klint is a white chalk cliff located on the Danish island of Zealand. This geological site comprises a 15 km-long fossil-rich coastal cliff, offering exceptional evidence of the impact of the Chicxulub meteorite that crashed into the planet at the end of the Cretaceous, about 65 million years ago.

Researchers think that this caused the most remarkable mass extinction ever, responsible for the disappearance of over 50 per cent of all life on Earth. The site harbours a record of the cloud of ash formed by the impact of the meteorite.

Stevns Klint is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Baikonur Cosmodrome | Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan isn't known for its space program. So why does the country have a large space facility known as the Baikonur Cosmodrome?

For most of its existence, the Kazakh cosmodrome was a secret site whose location was unknown in the West. It was built at the height of the Cold War in the 1950s, when Russia was part of the Soviet Union and the Space Age was just starting.

But with the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, everything changed. Today, the Russians lease the Baikonur Cosmodrome from Kazakhstan. To support Russia while benefiting from its space station, NASA agreed to a shuttle-Mir program, which paid Russia to host American astronauts on the Mir space station.

Pitsunda Cathedral | Abkhazia

The Pitsunda Cathedral is a Georgian Orthodox Cathedral located in the de facto independent Republic of Abkhazia. Pitsunda Cathedral was built at the end of the 10th century by King Bagrat III of Georgia.

Abkhazia is a de facto sovereign state in the South Caucasus on the eastern coast of the Black Sea. Its population is around 250,000 and the capital is Sukhumi.

Abkhazia declared independence in 1999 but is not recognized internationally except by a few countries. Abkhazia together with Transnistria, Nagorno-Karabakh, and South Ossetia are post-Soviet "frozen conflict" zones.

Palio di Siena | Italy

The Palio di Siena, known locally simply as Il Palio, is a horse race that is held twice each year, on 2 July and 16 August, in Siena, Italy. Ten horses and riders, bareback and dressed in the appropriate colours, represent ten of the seventeen contrade, or city wards.

The race itself, in which the jockeys ride bareback, circles the Piazza del Campo, on which a thick layer of earth has been laid. The race is run for three laps of the piazza and usually lasts no more than 90 seconds.

The Island of Skye, located off the west coast of Scotland is 50 miles long and the largest of the Inner Hebrides.

The Inner Hebrides comprise 35 inhabited islands as well as 44 uninhabited islands with an area greater than 30 hectares (74 acres). Skye, Islay and Mull are the three largest islands, and also have the highest populations.

The ‘Old Man’ is a large pinnacle of rock that stands high and can be seen for miles around.

The archaeological zone of Paquimé | Mexico

The archaeological zone of Paquimé is located in the Municipality of Casas Grandes, Chihuahua, Mexico. It is located at the foot of the Sierra Madre. It is estimated to contain the remains of some 2,000 rooms in clusters of living rooms, workshops and stores, with patios. The predominant building material is unfired clay (adobe).

It is the largest archaeological zone that represents the peoples and cultures of the Chihuahua Desert. Its development took place in the years 700-1475 and it reached its apogee in the 14th and 15th centuries.

Archaeological Zone of Paquimé, Casas Grandes is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Ombilin Coal Mining Heritage | Indonesia

The Nurul Islam Great Mosque or also known as Sawahlunto Great Mosque is one of the oldest mosques in Indonesia. The mosque was built in 1894, during the Dutch colonial period and it was originally a steam power plant for the Ombilin Coal Mine. Its chimney was later used as a minaret.

Ombilin Coal Mining Heritage of Sawahlunto is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
