Porta San Giacomo | Italy

Bergamo is an Italian city northeast of Milan, in the Lombardy region. Its older upper district, called Città Alta, is characterized by cobblestone streets, encircled by Venetian walls. Porta San Giacomo is one of the four gates from the Venetian walls to the upper city of Bergamo, it was built in 1592.

Venetian Works of Defence between the 16th and 17th Centuries: Stato da Terra – Western Stato da Mar is a UNESCO World Heritage site. This property consists of 6 components of defence works in Italy, Croatia and Montenegro.

The other two fortified cities in Italy are:
- Fortified city of Peschiera del Garda
- City Fortress of Palmanova
