Bamileke dancers | Cameroon

The Bamileke is the native group which is now dominant in Cameroon's West and Northwest Regions. Many traditional Bamileke still dress in costumes when performing a ceremonial dance or for tourists passing by.

The costumes are rather large and typically cover the body from head to toe. Each society within the Bamileke have their own particular costumes and style of dance.

Chaîne des Puys | France

Did you know that right in the middle of France there is a chain of volcanoes that might erupt? The chain began to form approximately 95, 000 years ago, and the volcanic activity that formed the range stopped only about 10,000 years ago. So these volcanoes are dormant for quit some time already.

Chaîne des Puys - Limagne fault tectonic arena is a UNESCO World Heritage site. In the background you see the Puy de Dôme,  one of the youngest volcanoes in the Chaîne des Puys.

Birka and Hovgården | Sweden

Birka and Hovgården is a UNESCO World Heritage site in Sweden.

The Birka archaeological site is located on Björkö Island in Lake Mälar and was occupied in the 9th and 10th centuries. Hovgården is situated on the neighbouring island of Adelsö. Together, they make up an archaeological complex which illustrates the elaborate trading networks of Viking-Age Europe and their influence on the subsequent history of Scandinavia.

Sacred City of Kandy | Sri Lanka

Kandy is a mountain city in Sri Lanka. was home to the Sinhalese kings from 1592 to 1815. It is also the site of Sri Dalada Maligawa, also called the Temple of the Tooth, as a special container holds a tooth of the Buddha. Over the years, the relic came to be very important politically; the belief was that the holder of the sacred tooth was the one who would have power over the Buddhist population.

Sacred City of Kandy is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Church of Saint Nicholas in Budești | Romania

Wooden Churches of Maramureş is a UNESCO World Heritage site. According to Unesco the eight insrcibed churches are outstanding examples of a range of architectural solutions from different periods and areas.

Bas-relief of Bisotun | Iran

Bisotun is located along the ancient trade route linking the Iranian high plateau with Mesopotamia. The principal monument of this archaeological site is the bas-relief and cuneiform inscription ordered by Darius I, The Great, when he rose to the throne of the Persian Empire in 521 BC.

The inscription consits of 1119 lines in three languages and measures 15m high by 25 m wide.
