Wannian Temple | China

On Mount Emei, there are over 30 temples, ten of them large and very old; they are in local traditional style and most are built on hillsides.

The Wannian Temple, meaning "Temple with Thousands of Years of History" in Chinese, is one of the main temples. Inside this temple you find many Buddhist  statues.

Mount Emei Scenic Area, including Leshan Giant Buddha Scenic Area is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Yeşil Türbe | Turkey

The Yeşil Türbe (Green Tomb) is a mausoleum of the fifth Ottoman Sultan, Mehmed I, in Bursa, Turkey. It was built by Mehmed's son and successor Murad II following the death of the sovereign in 1421.

The tomb is part of the Yesil Külliye, a large Ottoman complex of religious buildings. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage site inscribed in 2014 under the name Bursa and Cumalıkızık: the Birth of the Ottoman Empire.

Riyad, capital of Saudi Arabia

Riyad is the capital of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Once nothing more than a dusty, desert outpost, Riyadh has blossomed into one of the most influential and intriguing cities in the Middle East.

The Saudi Arabian capital is home to soaring modern towers, high-rise hotels ... and to this building that houses the Minstry of Interior.

Jame'asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque | Brunei

Jame'asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque, also known as Kiarong mosque, is located in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei's capital city. It is one of the most impressive examples of modern Islamic architecture in Southeast Asia, built by the present Sultan in 1994 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Sultan's reign.

The Crystal Mosque | Malaysia

The Crystal Mosque or Masjid Kristal is a mosque in Terengganu, Malaysia. A grand structure made of steel, glass and crystal. The mosque was officially opened in 2008.  It has the capacity to accommodate over 1,500 worshipers at a time.

Eid or Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, which is a month of fasting that started on May 27. This year, Eid starts on Sunday June 25 (TODAY) and marks the start of a month of celebration.

The Persian Garden | Iran

The Dowlatabad Garden is among the 9 Iranian gardens which are collectively registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, inscribed under the name "The Persian Garden".


 The garden is located in Yazd, central Iran. The 33.8 metres high building is a actually a wind catcher (badgir).

Geghard monastery | Armenia

Geghard is a medieval monastery in the Kotayk province of Armenia, being partially carved out of the adjacent mountain and surrounded by cliffs. The origins of the complex date back to the 4th century. The main chapel was built in 1215.

The monastery is a UNESCO World Heritage site, inscribed under the name Monastery of Geghard and the Upper Azat Valley.

Stamp
Part of a set two stamps (2014), dedicated to Armenian cross-stones art. Khachkars are outdoor steles carved from stone by craftspeople in Armenia and communities in the Armenian diaspora.

Hanseatic city of Münster | Germany

The German city of Münster has a rich history going back more than 1200 years. Whether as a bishop's seat, a member of the Hanseatic League or a university city – Münster has always played an important role in the region and far beyond.

South of the Baltic coast in the heart of Westphalia, Münster was a key center for the transshipment of goods and raw material destined for the Baltic trade.  As such, it developed its own contingent of Hansa merchants who built medieval Münster into a wealthy provincial town. The city joined the Hanseatic League in 1368.

Darłówko | Poland

Darłówko is a neighborhood and a popular summertime resort in the town of Darłowo, a town at the Baltic Sea in north-western Poland.

In 1412 Darłowo joined the Hanseatic League, a commercial and defensive confederation of merchant guilds and their market towns.

Ko Pha Ngan Island | Thailand

Ko Pha Ngan is an island in the Gulf of Thailand in southeast Thailand. It is part of the Samui Archipelago. The island's population is about 13,000. One of the other islands in this archipelago is Koh Samui, Thailand's second-largest island after Phuket.

Canberra is the capital city of Australia. With a population of about 380,000 a city of moderate size.

The site of Canberra was selected for the location of the nation's capital in 1908 as a compromise between rivals Sydney and Melbourne, Australia's two largest cities.

Parliament House is the meeting place of the Parliament of Australia. Did you know it contains 4,700 rooms!

Town of Olinda | Brazil

Olinda is an historic city in the Brazilian state of Pernambuco, located on the country's northeastern Atlantic Ocean coast. It is one of the best-preserved colonial cities in Brazil. Founded in the 16th century by the Portuguese, the town’s history is linked to the sugar-cane industry. Olinda was one of the first settlements founded by Europeans in Brazil.

Historic Centre of the Town of Olinda is a UNESCO World Herita site.

Jules Wijdenbosch Bridge | Suriname

The bridge over the Surinam River is part of the East-West Link, connecting the capital city Paramaribo and the Commewijne District.

The bridge is named after former president Jules Wijdenbosch. It has two lanes, is 1504 metres long, and was opened on 20 May 2000.

Camel Market | Egypt

The Birqash Camel Market (Soul El-Gamal) is one of Egypt's most extraordinary experiences. Just a 45 minute (60km) drive away from Cairo lies one of the biggest markets for camel meat in all of Africa.

The meat demands of Cairo’s 20 million inhabitants mean that this camel market is lively and animated every day as hundreds of animals are bought and sold.

Actually I have no clue where the camel market on the postcard is located. But I think the story fits the picture.

Ġgantija temples | Malta

The Ġgantija temples can be found on Gozo, Malta's second largest island. The temples are part of the UNESCO World Heritage site Megalithic Temples of Malta.

These Temples are prehistoric monumental buildings constructed during the 3th and 4th millennium BC. They rank amongst the earliest free-standing stone buildings in the world.

Historic Centre of Florence | Italy

Florence, or Firenze in Italian, is one of the 7 Unesco World Heritage sites in the Tuscan region. Florence's historical center is commonly referred to as an open-air museum.

Florence's Santa Maria del Fiore cathedral stands tall over the city with its magnificent Renaissance dome. Building of this cathedral started at the end of the 13th century.

Blegny-Mine | Belgium

Blegny-Mine was a coal mine in Trembleur, near Liège, in Belgium which today is preserved as an industrial heritage site and show mine.

The mine is one of the four Major Mining Sites of Wallonia, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Here you see a postcard of the Bois du Cazier mine in Marcinelle.

Mount Logan | Canada

Mount Logan is the highest mountain in Canada. The mountain is located within Kluane National Park, close to the Alaskan border.

This is a UNESCO World Heritage site inscribed under the name Kluane / Wrangell-St. Elias / Glacier Bay / Tatshenshini-Alsek. These parks comprise an impressive complex of glaciers and high peaks on both sides of the border between Canada (Yukon Territory and British Columbia) and the United States (Alaska).

Goiás is a small and isolated town in central Brazil that preserves the Portuguese flavor from the colonial times. The historic centre of the town of Goiás is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Le Morne | Mauritius

Le Morne Cultural Landscape, a rugged mountain that juts into the Indian Ocean in the southwest of Mauritius was used as a shelter by runaway slaves, maroons, through the 18th and early years of the 19th centuries.

Protected by the mountain’s isolated, wooded and almost inaccessible cliffs, the escaped slaves formed small settlements in the caves and on the summit of Le Morne. Le Morne Cultural Landscape is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
