Aquileia is an ancient Roman city in Italy. Once it was one of the largest and wealthiest cities of the Early Roman Empire. Destroyed by Attila in the mid-5th century. Most of it still lies unexcavated beneath the fields.
Among the jewels of this city is the Patriarchal Basilica, built c. 1000, and brilliant with its magnificent 4th-Century mosaics.
