Noto, the limestone capital of Baroque architecture in Sicily, Italy. The city lends its name to the surrounding area: Val di Noto.
Late Baroque Towns of the Val di Noto (South-Eastern Sicily) is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The eight settlements of the Val di Noto that comprises this site were completely destroyed by the enormous 1693 Sicily earthquake. Following the earthquake, these towns were rebuilt on entirely new sites. The eight towns are Caltagirone, Militello Val di Catania, Catania, Modica, Noto, Palazzolo, Ragusa and Scicli.
