Roman theatre of Mérida | Spain

The Roman colony of Augusta Emerita (present day Mérida, Spain) was founded in 25 BC by Augustus, the first emperor of the Roman Empire. The city was the capital of the Roman province of Lusitania. The modern city of Mérida has been built on top of Emerita, yet, archaeological remains are well preserved.

Archaeological Ensemble of Mérida is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The 22 component parts of the property comprise an area of 31 ha. One of these components is the Roman Theatre.

The church of peace in Świdnica | Poland

The religious and political conflicts of the 17th century that took place in the German states ended with the so called Peace of Westphalia in 1648. Silesian Protestants, supported by Sweden, negotiated the right to establish three new churches.

The Austrian emperor, Ferdinand, allowed to build churches in Glogau (Głogów), Schweidnitz (Świdnica) and Jauer (Jawor). Two of the three churches are still standing today, only the Protestant church in Glogow had burned down in 1758. These churches are the largest timber-framed religious buildings in Europe

Saltaire, West Yorkshire, is a complete and well-preserved industrial village of the second half of the 19th century. The postcard showing a painting by David Starley.

Its textile mills, public buildings and workers' housing are built in a harmonious style of high architectural standards and the urban plan survives intact, giving a vivid impression of Victorian philanthropic paternalism.

The city of Le Havre, on the English Channel in Normandy, was severely bombed during the Second World War. The destroyed area was rebuilt according to the plan of a team headed by Auguste Perret, from 1945 to 1964.

Auguste Perret (12 February 1874 – 25 February 1954) was a French architect and a pioneer of the architectural use of reinforced concrete.
