Historic City of Yazd is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It bears living testimony to the use of limited resources for survival in the desert. Water is supplied to the city through a qanat system developed to draw underground water. The earthen architecture of Yazd has escaped the modernization that destroyed many traditional earthen towns.

The Danube Delta | Romania

The Danube Delta is the second largest river delta in Europe, after the Volga Delta. The greater part of the Danube Delta is located in Romania, while its northern part is situated in Ukraine.

The waters of the Danube, which flow into the Black Sea, form the largest and best preserved of Europe's deltas. The Danube delta hosts over 300 species of birds as well as 45 freshwater fish species in its numerous lakes and marshes.

Danube Delta is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

With 23 km the Aletsch Glacier is the largest in the Alps. The Aletsch Glacier is – like most glaciers on this world – a retreating glacier. Since 1980 it lost 1.3 kilometres of its length and lost also more than 300 metres (980 ft) of its thickness since 1870.

Chan Chan Archaeological Zone | Peru

The Chimu Kingdom, with Chan Chan as its capital, reached its apogee in the 15th century, not long before falling to the Incas. The Chimú civilization was considered to be one of the most prosperous cultures and largest empires in the history of the Andes.

The ruins of Chan Chan, which cover nearly 14 square miles, are in fairly good condition because the area is usually rainless. The building material used was adobe brick, and the buildings were finished with mud frequently adorned with patterned relief arabesques.

Chan Chan Archaeological Zone is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
