Antananarivo is the capital, largest city (with a
population of about 1,6 million) and the economic center of Madagascar.

Jean Laborde (1805 – 1878) was an adventurer and
early industrialist in Madagascar. Laborde built a complete
industrial complex. Within 6 years, he had blast furnaces with
waterwheel-powered draught producing cast iron etc.
