Xieng Khouane Buddha Park | LAOS

Xieng Khouane, meaning 'spirit city', is a sculpture park located near Vientiane, capital of Laos. Forget the typical Buddha images seen in temples across Southeast Asia; the Buddha Park near contains over 200 sometimes-menacing statues. A 390-foot-long reclining Buddha is the crown jewel of the collection.

Xinjiang Tianshan | China

The Tianshan mountain system of Central Asia is one of the largest mountain ranges in the world. Xinjiang Tianshan presents unique physical geographic features and scenically beautiful areas including spectacular snow and snowy mountains glacier-capped peaks, undisturbed forests and meadows, clear rivers and lakes and red bed canyons. Its name translate into something like 'heavenly mountains'.

Monte San Giorgio | Switzerland

This mountain has a truly rich inner life: rising just under 1100 metres in height, the Monte San Giorgio has been a Mecca for fossil scientists since the 19th century.
Thousands of fossilised fish and marine saurians of up to six metres in length have already been unearthed here by palaeontologists. And for good reason: 230 to 245 million years ago, this was the site of a 100-metre-deep ocean basin. Today, at the southern end of Lake Lugano, the Monte San Giorgio rises like a pyramid – inside, filled with all manner of fossils.
Monte San Giorgio is a Unesco World Heritage site (Swiss - Italian).

Pillar tombs at Xanthos | Turkey

Southwest Turkey, along and inland from the popular "Turquoise Coast", was home to the ancient Lycians. One of the most interesting features of the Lycians is their funerary culture, as seen in the incredible tombs that they built.
The least common form of Lycian tombs is the pillar tomb (as can be seen on the upper right picture). These are the oldest form of Lycian tombs, and were used primarily for important persons.
Xanthos-Letoon is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The Old Town Hall in Levoča | Slovakia

Levoča is a town in eastern Slovakia with a population of 14,600. The origins of the old Town Hall in Levoča dates back to the 15th century. The gothic building was destroyed almost completely in 1550 during a fire.
The historic town-centre of Levoča is part of UNESCO World Heritage site Levoča, Spišský Hrad and the Associated Cultural Monument.

Flags of the World | Alderney

Alderney is the third largest of the Channel Islands, which is a British Crown Dependency lying in the English Channel close to the coast of Normandy. The other two Channel Islands are Jersey and Guernsey.
The flag of Alderney was adopted in 1993. The flag is St George's Cross defaced with Alderney's coat of arms, a lion rampant holding a sprig on a green background with a golden border.

Semaphore is a suburb located in north-west of Adelaide. The Sentinal of Semaphore’ is a solid stone structure that was built in 1875. At 1pm daily, the black ball drops, signalling ships to rate their chronometers, vital navigation instruments. Similar towers were set up in many cities around the world.
Time Ball is a, today obsolete, time-signalling device. It consists of a large, painted wooden or metal ball that is dropped at a predetermined time, principally to enable navigators aboard ships offshore to verify the setting of their marine chronometers.

Split Rock Lighthouse | USA

Split Rock Lighthouse is a lighthouse located southwest of Silver Bay, Minnesota, USA on the on the rocky coast of Lake Superior. The events that took place in November 1905 prompted the construction of this lighthouse.
The Mataafa Storm, is the name of a storm that occurred on the Great Lakes on November 27–28, 1905. The storm, named after the steamship Mataafa, ended up destroying or damaging about 29 vessels and killing 36 seamen on Lake Superior.

Maputo is the capital and, with over 1 million inhabitants, most populous city of Mozambique. The city is located on a hill in the south of the country, on the shores of the Indian Ocean.

Hydra Island | Greece

The Saronic Islands or Argo-Saronic Islands is an archipelago in Greece, named after the Saronic Gulf in which they are located, just off the Greek mainland. Hydra is one of the Saronic Islands.
Perhaps the most unique aspect of this stunning little paradise is that there are no cars or motor vehicles on the island, aside from garbage trucks and ambulances. The main method of transportation here are the delightful mules and donkeys, as well as the water taxis.
Muscat, the capital of Oman

Muscat is the capital of Oman. It is also the seat of government and largest city with a population of over 630,000.
A special aspect of Muscat is surely the Corniche (boulevard) along the deep blue water and the rugged rocky mountains. A walk of about 3 kilometers. Lined with 19th-century merchants' houses and punctuated by colourful minarets, Muttrah's sweeping seafront is the city's old commercial centre. It remains one of Muscat's most vibrant areas, especially at sunset when families come out to stroll.

Rietveld Schröder House | Netherlands

"The Rietveld Schröder House in Utrecht was commissioned by Ms Truus Schröder-Schräder, designed by the architect Gerrit Thomas Rietveld, and built in 1924.
This small family house, with its interior, the flexible spatial arrangement, and the visual and formal qualities, was a manifesto of the ideals of the De Stijl group of artists and architects in the Netherlands in the 1920s, and has since been considered one of the icons of the Modern Movement in architecture."

Harar Gate | Ethiopia

Harar is a walled city in eastern Ethiopia, about five hundred kilometers from Addis Ababa at an elevation of 1,885 meters. The fortified historic town of Harar is located in the eastern part of the country on a plateau with deep gorges surrounded by deserts and savannah. The walls surrounding this sacred Muslim city were built between the 13th and 16th centuries.
Harar Jugol, the Fortified Historic Town is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The Schönbrunn Palm House | Austria

Palace and Gardens of Schönbrunn is a UNESCO World Heritage site in Austria. This card representing the gardens-part. The Palm House is located on the site of the former Dutch Botanical Garden and was established in 1881. The Schönbrunn Palm House was the last of its type to be constructed in continental Europe.
According to UNESCO, It is impossible to separate the gardens from the palace, of which they form an organic extension. This is an excellent example of the concept of Gesamtkunstwerk, a masterly fusion of many art forms.

Rath Yatra Festival | India

Ratha Yatra is a Hindu festival associated with Lord Jagannath held at Puri in the state of Odisha, India.
The famous festival that is celebrated usually in the month of June or July commences when the chariots of Lord Jagannath accompanied by his elder brother Balabhadra and sister Devi Subhadra are brought out on to the Main Street of Puri known as Bada Danda. The Chariots are then taken to the Shri Gundicha Temple to their aunt’s house where the deities enjoy a nine days stay and are served with sweet pancakes.

San Agustin Church | Philippines

San Agustin Church is a Roman Catholic church located inside the historic walled city of Intramuros in Manila.
Along with their search for wealth, the Spanish colonizers made it a top mission to spread Catholicism in the Philippines. And to broaden the reach of Christianity, a place for worship is needed to bring the congregation together. As a result, churches were built around the country for Christianity to thrive. One of these churches was the San Agustin Church.
Baroque Churches of the Philippines is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The other three churches are: Church of La Nuestra Senora de la Asuncion, Church of San Agustin (Paoay) and Church of Santo Tomas de Villanueva.

The Vega Archipelago | Norway

The Vega Archipelago (Vegaøyan in Norwegian), is a group of islands in the Norwegian Sea. This cluster of around 6,500 small islands in Nordland county, just south of the Arctic circle, surrounds the main island of Vega and has been inhabited since the Stone Age.

The Kvarken Archipelago | Finland

The Kvarken Archipelago is part of UNESCO World Heritage site High Coast / Kvarken Archipelago.
The steep High Coast, located in Sweden, and the flat Kvarken Archipelago (the low coast) are topographical opposites. The distance between the areas is 150 kilometres and consists of 7000 skerries and islets.
