Pillar tombs at Xanthos | Turkey
Postcard
Southwest Turkey, along and inland from the popular "Turquoise Coast", was home to the ancient Lycians. One of the most interesting features of the Lycians is their funerary culture, as seen in the incredible tombs that they built.
The least common form of Lycian tombs is the pillar tomb (as can be seen on the upper right picture). These are the oldest form of Lycian tombs, and were used primarily for important persons.
Xanthos-Letoon is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
