Iwami Ginzan Silver Mine | Japan

The Iwami Ginzan was a silver mine near the city of Ōda, located on Japan’s Honshū island. It was the largest silver mine in Japanese history. Active for almost four hundred years until closing down in 1923.

The mine and surrounding landscap was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2007.
