Gelati is a monastic complex in western Georgia, built
between the 12th and 17th centuries.
Together with Bagrati Cathedral, Gelati Monastery is a
UNESCO World Heritage site. Both cathedral and monastery represent the
flowering of medieval architecture in Georgia.
update juli 2017: UNESCO removed Bagrati Cathedral from its World Heritage sites in 2017, considering its major reconstruction detrimental to its integrity and authenticity.
