Hanseatic city of Elburg | Netherlands
Postcard
Elburg is a small, 14th century medieval Hanseatic Town in the east part of the Netherlands, on the edge of Lake Veluwe. In the years 1392-1396 the city was built in its present form: a rectangle of 370 x 240 feet, with straight streets and alleys, and a surrounding wall for defence.
The Hanseatic League was an economic alliance of trading cities and their merchant guilds that dominated trade along the coast of Northern Europe.
