Marching Towards Democracy | Sierra Leone
Postcard
Sierra Leone is a country in West Africa. It is bordered by Guinea to the northeast, Liberia to the southeast and the Atlantic Ocean to the southwest. The population is about 7 million. In 1961 it became independent from the United Kingdom.
This postcard was issued by the National Commission for Democracy (NCD). It was one of the structures established in 1994 by the Military government of the National Provisional Ruling Council (NPRC) to facilitate the re-introduction and consolidation of democracy in Sierra Leone. The government lifted the ban on political parties on June 21, 1995.
Oh happy day, a new country added to the collection!
