Redwood National Park | USA

Redwood National and State Parks is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The park comprises a region of coastal mountains bordering the Pacific Ocean north of San Francisco. It is covered with a magnificent forest of coastal redwood trees, the tallest and most impressive trees in the world. These trees can live to be 2000 years old and grow to over 300 feet tall!

The Maldives

Maldives is an island nation in the Indian Ocean. The chain of 1190 little coral islands scattered across the Indian Ocean that forms the archipelago of the Maldives is 80 -120 km wide. Only 201 islands are inhabited by the local people, and 83 islands are developed exclusively as tourist resorts, while the rest are uninhabited.

Assisi, a medieval city built on a hill, is the birthplace of Saint Francis, is closely associated with the work of the Franciscan Order.

The Caroline Islands are a widely scattered archipelago of tiny islands in the western Pacific Ocean, to the north of New Guinea. Politically they are divided between the Federated States of Micronesia in the eastern part of the group, and Palau at the extreme western end.

Kapingamarangi is an atoll in the state of Pohnpei of the Federated States of Micronesia. It is by far the most southerly atoll of the Caroline Islands. The island has 500 inhabitants.

Walkenried Monastery | Germany

Mines of Rammelsberg, Historic Town of Goslar and Upper Harz Water Management System is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Why is the Cistercian monastery of Walkenried included in this site?

In the early 13th century the monks of Walkenried, as important owners of mines and smelting works, developed the first systems for supplying water to their own mining and pond installations, which the miners of the Harz continued to develop over the following centuries. The Cistercian monks of Walkenried can therefore be regarded as "the fathers of the Upper Harz Water Management System".

Parliament House | Curacao

Fort Amsterdam is a fort located in Willemstad, Curaçao. It was constructed in 1634 by the Dutch West India Company (DWIC) and served not only as a military fort but also as the headquarters of the DWIC.

Today the fortbuilding is the seat of the Parliament of Curacao. The card shows the church within the fort walls, today a museum.

Historic Area of Willemstad, Inner City and Harbour, Curaçao is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Boubon Pottery Market | Niger

Boubon is a large village in southwestern Niger, located on the left bank of the Niger River. Boubon is one of the major pottery centers of Niger even though there is no large scale or centralized production. The pottery is made by women in individual households. The pots are sold on the large and colourful weekly market.

Purandara Mantapa | India

Hampi, a small village in Northern Karnataka, India, was the last capital of the great Hindu kingdom of Vijayanagar. Hampi had very wealthy kings who built many temples and palaces.

Purandara Mantapa is a small open pillared pavilion with whitewashed top dedicated to the legendary poet Purandaradasa who lived in Hampi. Purandara Dasaru was a wealthy merchant of gold, silver and other miscellaneous jewellery from Karnataka, who gave away all his material riches to become a Haridasa (literally meaning a servant of Lord Hari or Lord Krishna).

Group of Monuments at Hampi is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Mersea Island is the most easterly inhabited island in the UK, situated off the coast of Essex.  It is one of 43 (unbridged) tidal islands which can be accessed by road from the British mainland.

Checking the tide times before visiting Mersea Island is very important as at high tide the causeway onto the island, The Strood, becomes covered in sea water and impassable for a period of time.
