Liberty Island | USA

Liberty Island is a small island in Upper New York Bay in the United States. It is well known for the Statue of Liberty, a colossal neoclassical sculpture. The copper statue was a gift from the people of France to the people of the United States.

Statue of Liberty is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Tōdai-ji Temple | Japan

Tōdai-ji, meaning Eastern Great Temple, is a Buddhist temple complex that was once one of the powerful Seven Great Temples, located in the city of Nara, Japan. Its Great Buddha Hall houses the world's largest bronze statue of the Buddha, known in Japanese as Daibutsu.

The temple is part of UNESCO World Heritage site Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara.

Flags of the World | Afghanistan

The national flag of Afghanistan consists of a vertical tricolor with the classical National Emblem in the center.

The current flag was adopted on August 19, 2013, but many similar designs had been in use throughout most of the 20th century. During the 20th century alone, Afghanistan went through 18 different national flags!

The Jantar Mantar monument in Jaipur, Rajasthan is a collection of nineteen architectural astronomical instruments. Built by the Rajput king Sawai Jai Singh II in the early 18th century.

The name is derived from jantar meaning instrument or machine and mantar, meaningamething like consult or calculate. Therefore, Jantar Mantar literally means 'calculating instrument'. The Jantar Mantar, Jaipur is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Ankara - the capital of Turkey

Ankara is the capital of Turkey. With a population of about 4,6 million it is Turkey's second largest city after Istanbul.

The Kocatepe Mosque is the largest mosque in Ankara. It was built between 1967 and 1987. Its size and prominent location have made it a landmark that can be seen from almost anywhere in central Ankara.

Kalwaria Zebrzydowska | Poland

Kalwaria Zebrzydowska is a town in southern Poland with 4,400 inhabitants. The wife of Mikołaj Zebrzydowski (1553–1620) who was the Voivode (Governor) of Kraków, had a vision of three burning crosses on a nearby hill. At the beginning of the 17th century, in recognition of her vision, her husband built a series of over 40 Baroque churches and chapels dedicated to several faiths.

Kalwaria Zebrzydowska: the Mannerist Architectural and Park Landscape Complex and Pilgrimage Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Flags of the World | Tajikistan

The national flag of Tajikistan was adopted in November 1992, replacing the flag of the Tajik Soviet Socialist Republic of 1953.

It is no coïncidence that Tajikistan's flag uses a similar color scheme to the flag of Iran. The Tajik people are 'ethno-linguistically' Iranian. Which means something like they share the same roots.

Caernarfon Castle is a medieval fortress in Caernarfon, Gwynedd, north-west Wales. King Edward I built this castle in the 1280s at roughly the same time as two other castles: Harlech and Conwy.

Mohni Island and lighthouse | Estonia

Mohni Lighthouse is a lighthouse located on the Estonian island of Mohni in the Gulf of Finland. The original wooden lighthouse was built in 1806, and replaced with the 20 metre concrete structure in 1852.

Manitoulin Island and lighthouse | Canada

Manitoulin Island is an island in Lake Huron in Ontario, Canada. With an area of 2,700 km2, it is the largest fresh water island in the world with over 100 inland lakes.

Manitoulin Island contains a number of lakes of its own. Its three most prominent lakes are Lake Manitou, Lake Kagawong and Lake Mindemoya. Each of these three lakes in turn have islands within them, the largest of these is Treasure Island, located in the centre of Manitoulin.
