Flags of the World | Dominican Republic

Postcard
This flag is in use since the Dominican Republic achieved independence from Spain in 1844.

The blue on the flag stands for liberty, the white for salvation, and the red for the blood of heroes. In the middle of the cross, there is a coat of arms, which depicts a shield supported by palm and olive branch bearing an inscription: "Dios, Patria, Liberta", translated as "God, country, freedom."
