Ancient city of Apollonia | Albania
Postcard
The ancient city of Apollonia is situated in southwestern Albania, about 13 miles from the city of Fier. Apollonia was founded in 588 BCE by Greek colonists from Corfu and Corinth. The city flourished during the period of Roman rule and was home to a renowned school of philosophy.
But eventually the once proud city fell into decline until its total abandonment during the medieval period.
