Tipasa Archaeological Park | Algeria

On the shores of the Mediterranean, Tipasa was an ancient Punic trading-post conquered by Rome and turned into a strategic base for the conquest of the kingdoms of Mauritania. Tipasa is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Tipasa is located 70 km west of the capital Algiers. It is a serial property comprising three sites: two archaeological parks and the Royal Mauritanian Mausoleum at 11 km south-east of Tipasa.

The national flag of Algeria was adopted on 3 July 1962.

Nationalist leader Ahmed Messali Hadj used the green-and-white flag in the 1920s as a rallying point for those opposed to French rule. In the 1950s the National Liberation Front and the National Liberation Army gave support to that flag, finally raised over an independent Algeria on July 3, 1962.

The mausoleum of the Mauritanian Royal Family is an archaeological site located in the surroundings of Tipasa. The Mausoleum is the tomb where king and queen of Mauretania are buried. Tipas is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Tassili n'Ajjer | Algeria

Tassili n'Ajjer is a mountain range in the Algerian part of the Sahara Desert. It is a vast plateau in south-east Algeria at the borders of Libya and Niger.

Located in a strange lunar landscape, this site has one of the most important groupings of prehistoric cave art in the world. More than 15,000 drawings and engravings record the climatic changes, the animal migrations and the evolution of human life on the edge of the Sahara from 6000 BC to the first centuries of the present era.

Ghardaïa is a city located within the Sahara Desert in northern-central Algeria. The city is part of a pentapolis, a hilltop city amongst four others, built almost a thousand years ago in the M’Zab valley.

The valley has conserved practically the same way of life and the same building techniques since the 11th century. It is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Bab el-Oued is a neighbourhood in Algiers, the capital of Algeria, along the coast north of the city centre. Towards the end of the Algerian War of Independence, the neighbourhood became the stronghold of the Organisation de l'Armee Secrete.
