Karlskrona | Sweden

The city of Karlskrona is spread over 30 islands in the eastern part of the Blekinge archipelago in the Baltic Sea. The city is host to Sweden's only remaining naval base and the headquarters of the Swedish Coast Guard.

Naval Port of Karlskrona is a UNESCO World Heritage site. According to UNESCO, Karlskrona is an outstanding example of a late-17th-century European planned naval city.

Beirut Harbour in better days | Lebanon

A massive explosion occurred on Tuesday, August 4 in the vicinity of the Beirut Port Complex, wreaking havoc across the city and killing hundreds of people.

The blast is believed to have originated from a chemical storage warehouse where an estimated 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate got ignited. The material has reportedly been confiscated from a ship years ago and stored there, but without proper safety measures.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Lebanese people.

Port Adelaide | Australia

Adelaide is the capital city of the state of South Australia, and the fifth-most populous city of Australia. Port Adelaide is known for its well preserved 19th-century pubs and hotels, reflecting the area's maritime history in catering to the sailors of trading ships.

Bridgetown Cruise Terminal | Barbados

Bridgetown is the capital and biggest city of Barbados. Bridgetown Barbados cruise port terminal (aka "Deep Water Harbour") is operational since January 14, 1994. Barbados is one of the most popular vacation destinations in the world, making the Bridgetown Cruise Terminal a favorite port of call for cruise ships.

Due to Covid-19 unfortunately not much cruising going on these days.

Town of Ramsey | Isle of Man

Ramsey (or Rhumsaa in 'Manx') is a coastal town in the north of the Isle of Man. It is the second largest town on the island after capital Douglas. Ramsey has one of the biggest harbours on the island.

Port Zante | St. Kitts & Nevis

St. Kitts is the larger of the two Caribbean islands that comprise the nation of Saint Kitts and Nevis. Basseterre is the capital of Saint Kitts and Nevis.

Port Zante, in the centre of the Basseterre Bay, is for use of docking cruise ships only. The Port can accommodate the largest cruise ships in the world; it also has a marina facility.

Montego Bay | Jamaica

Montego Bay, Jamaica, is a popular tourist destination featuring duty-free shopping, a cruise line terminal and several beaches and resorts. Montego Bay is very important to Jamaica's economy. Most of the country's visitors arrive and depart from Montego Bay's Airport or Port.

Historic Quarter of the Seaport City of Valparaíso is a UNESCO World Heritage site. According to UNESCO this  colonial city presents an excellent example of late 19th-century urban and architectural development in Latin America.

St. Pauli Landungsbrücken | Germany

Port of Hamburg is a sea port on the river Elbe in Hamburg, Germany. After Rotterdam, the 2nd busiest port in Europe. St. Pauli Landungsbrücken (lit. landing bridges) were once a landing pier for steam ships and now function as a connector for underground and suburban trains.

Here you see a quit similar card I received in 2015, just shot from a slightly different angle.

The capital of Antigua and Barbuda

St. John's is the capital and largest city of Antigua and Barbuda, located in the West Indies. The city's population is 22,000. St. John's is the commercial centre of and the chief port of the island of Antigua.

Old City of Acre | Israel

Akko (also known as Acre) is a city in the northern part of Israel. A city with a rich history as it is actually one of the oldest cities in the world, continuously inhabited since 4000 years.

The present city is characteristic of a fortified town dating from the Ottoman 18th and 19th centuries, with typical urban components such as the citadel, mosques, khans and baths. The remains of the Crusader town, dating from 1104 to 1291, lie almost intact, both above and below today's street level, providing an exceptional picture of the layout and structures of the capital of the medieval Crusader kingdom of Jerusalem.

Old port of La Rochelle | France

The old port area of the French city of La Rochelle is dominated by three 14th and 15th century towers that stand tall at the entrance.

 

On the left you see St-Nicolas Tower, once a formidable military building. Forty-two metres high, the inside is a labyrinth of stairs and corridors. On the right, Tour de la Chaine, the oldest one, built between 1382-1390. Not shown is Tower of the Lantern. 

The city was a member of the famous Hanseatic League, an economic alliance of trading cities and their merchant guilds that dominated trade along the coast of Northern Europe.

Torquay is a popular tourist destination, famous for its sandy beaches, family attractions and genteel Victorian appearance. You can’t get much more of a ‘traditional British seaside’ resort than the vibrant and cheerful town of Torquay. Renowned for its healthful climate, the town earned the nickname of the English Riviera.

Rhodes Island | Greece

Rhodes is the largest of the twelve Dodecanese islands located in the Aegean sea.

Throughout its long history the different people who settled on Rhodes left their mark in all aspects of the island's culture: art, language, architecture. Its strategic position brought to the island great wealth and made the city of Rhodes one of the leading cities of the ancient Greek world. The Medieval City of Rhodes is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Usually I only swap for "send from country of origin". But when arranging this swap, I might be blinded by the beauty of the view. So it was sent from Italy. 

Hvar Island | Croatia

Hvar is a Croatian island located off the Dalmatian coast. The island is the 4th most populated of the Croatian islands, with a population of about 11,000. 

Parts of the harbor of Hvar and surrounding areas are part of Defensive System of City of Hvar. That is part of Unesco World Heritage site inscribed under the name "Venetian Works of Defence between 16th and 17th centuries".

In the end it didnt make it to the list of world heritage sites.

Tkon village, Pašman island | Croatia

Tkon is a typical fishing village and port, located on the island of Pašman, off the coast of the Adriatic Sea in Croatia.  Pašman is surrounded by the islands Ugljan, Iž, Dugi otok and Kornati. It is the 12th island in Croatian archipelago by land area.

The uninhabited islets surrounding Pašman island are frequented by bottlenose dolphins.

Baranof Island, Alaska | USA

Baranof Island is an island in the northern Alexander Archipelago in Alaska. The island was named after Alexander Andreyevich Baranov, the first governor of Russian America. Baranov Island was the center of Russian activity in North America during the period from 1804–1867.

Located on Baranof Island, Sitka was once the capital of Russian America and the fur-trading center of Alaska. Russian America was the name of the Russian colonial possessions in the Americas. In 1867 Russia sold its last remaining possessions to the United States. 

Birgu Waterfront | Malta

Birgu, also known as Vittoriosa, is an old fortified city in Malta. Together with the two other fortified cities Senglea and Cospicua known as the Three Cities.

World War 1 Centenary 2014, Floriana Hospital. Part of a set of three stamps depicting military hospitals.

During that war a total of 27 hospitals and camps were set-up across Malta to accommodate thousands of wounded Allied servicemen. This activity earned Malta the title: ‘Nurse of the Mediterranean.’

Marigot, capital of Saint Martain

Marigot is the main town and capital on the French side of the Caribbean island of Saint Martin. The town has a population of about 5,800.

 

Originally a fishing village on a swamp for which it was named, Marigot was made capital during the reign of King Louis XVI, who built Fort St. Louis on a hill near Marigot Bay. You can see the fort on top of the hill (bottom left picture on the postcard).
