San Miguel de Allende is located 274 km from Mexico City. The fortified town, first established in the 16th century to protect the Royal Route inland, reached its apogee in the 18th century when many of its outstanding religious and civic buildings were built in the style of the Mexican Baroque.

Protective town of San Miguel and the Sanctuary of Jesús Nazareno de Atotonilco is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Jesuit sanctuary is situated 14 km from San Miguel.

The 75-arched stone aqueduct of Santiago de Querétaro, which crosses over the Pan-American Highway at one point, supplied the city with drinking water well into the 20th century. To this day it still supplies water to the fountains scattered about Querétaro's old city.

The archaeological zone of Paquimé | Mexico

The archaeological zone of Paquimé is located in the Municipality of Casas Grandes, Chihuahua, Mexico. It is located at the foot of the Sierra Madre. It is estimated to contain the remains of some 2,000 rooms in clusters of living rooms, workshops and stores, with patios. The predominant building material is unfired clay (adobe).

It is the largest archaeological zone that represents the peoples and cultures of the Chihuahua Desert. Its development took place in the years 700-1475 and it reached its apogee in the 14th and 15th centuries.

Morelia is a city in central Mexico. In the background of the Tarascas fountain you see the aquaduct of Morelia. Its stone construction started in 1728. In its 1700 meters’ length, there are 253 arches, but we can only see 234, because the rest is under ground. It reaches a height of almost 10 meters.

Puebla is the capital and largest city of the state of Puebla, and one of the five most important Spanish colonial cities in Mexico. The city is situated in the Valley of Cuetlaxcoapan at the foot of one of Mexico’s highest volcanoes, the Popocatepetl.

Puebla Cathedral is a Roman Catholic church in the city of Puebla. The cathedral is the second-largest in the country after Mexico City Cathedral.

Monte Albán is a large archaeological site in the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca. Inhabited over a period of 1,500 years the terraces, dams, canals, pyramids and artificial mounds of Monte Albán were literally carved out of the mountain.

 

Together with nearby historic centre of Oaxaca it is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Cozumel is Mexico’s largest island, located about 45 miles south of Cancun.

Mayans settled on the island roughly 2000 years ago. Cozumel means "Land of the Swallow" in Mayan. The ruins of San Gervasio is a Maya site located on the island.

The Sonoran Desert is a North American desert which covers large parts of the Southwestern United States in Arizona and California, and of Northwestern Mexico in Sonora, Baja California and Baja California Sur.

It is the hottest desert in Mexico, with an area of 280,000 square kilometers.

Mexico, the archaeological site of Teotihuacan

The holy city of Teotihuacan, located 30 miles northeast of modern-day Mexico City, was one of the most powerful Mayan centers in Mesoamerica.

It was the largest city anywhere in the Western Hemisphere before the 1400s. It had thousands of residential compounds and scores of pyramid-temples and was comparable to the largest pyramids of Egypt.

Today it is the most visited archaeological site in Mexico.

Mexico City, the capital of Mexico, is one of the largest metropolitan areas in the world with over 20 million inhabitants (including Mexico City Metropolitan Area).

 

In the background you see Popocatépetl volcano (local name: Popo), a still active volcano. Popo is just too predictable to be considered a properly dangerous volcano. It vents off all its gas rather than storing it up, waiting to explode.
