The Dolomites | Italy

The Dolomites are a mountain range located in northeastern Italy. The Sesto-Cadini Dolomites are in the far north-eastern part of the Dolomites, featuring spectacular peaks looming more than 2,000 metres above the huge rocky high plateaus. One of the peaks is 2,839m high Cadin di San Lucano.

The Dolomites is a UNESCO World Heritage site. This serial property of nine areas presents a diversity of spectacular landscapes of international significance for geomorphology marked by steeples, pinnacles and rock walls, the site also contains glacial landforms and karst systems.

Rwenzori Mountains National Park | Uganda

The Rwenzori Mountains National Park covers nearly 100,000 ha in western Uganda and comprises the main part of the Rwenzori mountain chain, which includes Africa's third highest peak (Mount Margherita: 5,109 m). The region's glaciers, waterfalls and lakes make it one of Africa's most beautiful alpine areas.

Cirque de Gavarnie | France

The Cirque de Gavarnie is a cirque in the central Pyrenees, in Southwestern France, close to the border of Spain. A cirque is an amphitheatre-like valley formed by glacial erosion.

Pyrénées - Mont Perdu is a UNESCO world Heritage site, shared by France and Spain. This outstanding mountain landscape is centred around the peak of Mount Perdu, a calcareous massif that rises to 3,352 m.

La Réunion National Park | Réunion

Réunion is a French island with a population of about 800,000 located in the Indian Ocean, east of Madagascar.

Pitons, cirques and remparts of Reunion Island is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The property includes a great variety of rugged terrain and impressive escarpments, forested gorges and basins creating a visually striking landscape.

The ROC code on the postmark reads 19595A. ROC stands for ‘Référentiel des Organisations du Courrier’. The geographical locations are not mentioned on the postmark, only the ROC code. 19595A refers to St Denis Messageries Ctc, which is located on LaReunion.

Moskenesøya (meaning Moskenes Island) is an island at the southern end of the Lofoten archipelago.

Sigiriya Rock | Sri Lanka

Sigiriya is an Historic place in Sri Lanka, known for its 180m high 'Lion's Rock'. The ruins of this ancient capital, built by King Kassapa I (477–495), lie on the steep slopes and at the summit of this granite peak.

Ancient City of Sigiriya is a UNESCO World Heritage site. According to Unesco the site is one of the best preserved examples of ancient urban planning.

Dinosaur Provincial Park | Canada

Dinosaur Provincial Park is public park located in the badlands of southeastern Alberta, Canada. The park contains some of the most important fossil discoveries ever made.

More than 150 full dinosaur skeletons have been unearthed and more than 50 species have been discovered. All dating back some 75 million years.

Western Tien-Shan | Kazakhstan

The Tien-Shan mountain system is one of the largest mountain ranges in the world. It spans over three countries: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. Western Tien-Shan is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Western Tien-Shan is incredibly biodiverse and showcases a wide array of landscapes, ecosystems, fauna and flora. It is home to a considerable number of endemic species and communities, as well as a large number of wild, rare and threatened species.

Xinjiang Tianshan | China

The Tianshan mountain system of Central Asia is one of the largest mountain ranges in the world. Xinjiang Tianshan presents unique physical geographic features and scenically beautiful areas including spectacular snow and snowy mountains glacier-capped peaks, undisturbed forests and meadows, clear rivers and lakes and red bed canyons. Its name translate into something like 'heavenly mountains'.

Simien National Park | Ethiopia

Simien National Park, located in northern Ethiopia, is a spectacular landscape. Massive erosion over millions of years has created jagged mountain peaks, deep valleys and sharp droppings, some 1,500 m. The park is home to some extremely rare animals such as the Gelada baboon, the Simien fox and the Walia ibex, a goat found nowhere else in the world.

The park is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The Blue Mountains | Jamaica

The Blue Mountains are the longest mountain range in Jamaica. It is part of UNESCO World Heritage site Blue and John Crow mountains.

The site encompasses a rugged and extensively forested mountainous region in the south-east of Jamaica, which provided refuge first for the indigenous Tainos fleeing slavery. They resisted the European colonial system in this isolated region by establishing a network of trails, hiding places and settlements.

Qinghai Hoh Xil | China

Earlier this month, UNESCO declared  China’s Hoh Xil nature reserve a World Heritage site. Qinghai Hoh Xil is located in the north-eastern extremity of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau, the largest and highest plateau in the world.

This extensive area of alpine mountains and steppe systems is situated more than 4,500 m above sea level, where sub-zero average temperatures prevail all year-round. More than one third of the plant species, and all the herbivorous mammals are endemic to the plateau.

Mount Logan | Canada

Mount Logan is the highest mountain in Canada. The mountain is located within Kluane National Park, close to the Alaskan border.

This is a UNESCO World Heritage site inscribed under the name Kluane / Wrangell-St. Elias / Glacier Bay / Tatshenshini-Alsek. These parks comprise an impressive complex of glaciers and high peaks on both sides of the border between Canada (Yukon Territory and British Columbia) and the United States (Alaska).
