The White Tower of Thessaloniki | Greece

The White Tower, the most prominent monument of Thessaloniki, which dominates the port area, was built in late 15th century, as the south-east tower of the city’s fortification. It is an imposing six-storey, cylinder shaped structure, with 23 meters in diameter and 34 in height.

Paleochristian and Byzantine monuments of Thessaloniki is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The Monument of Neutrality is a monument located in Ashgabat. This 75 metres tall tripod was built in 1998 on the orders of Turkmenistan's President Saparmurat Niyazov (Turkmenbashi) to commemorate the country's official position of neutrality.

The clocktower was built in 1901-1902 by the Ottoman Sultan Abdul Hamid as a gift to the city of Tripoli.

Abdul Hamid II (1842 – 1918) was the 34th Sultan of the Ottoman Empire.

Golden Island, or L’Ile d’Or as the French say, is a small rocky island  near the city of Saint-Raphaël in southern France.

Doctor Auguste Lutaud acquired this island in the late 1800's. He declared himself “August the 1st”, sovereign of the island. He had the red rock tower built according to the unusual Sarasin architecture.

The Tower of Hercules is an ancient Roman lighthouse built on a 57 metre high rock, on a peninsula a few kilometers from the centre of Coruña, Spain. The tower served as a lighthouse and landmark since the late 1st century A.D.

The Sentinal of Semaphore | Australia

Semaphore is a suburb located in north-west of Adelaide. The Sentinal of Semaphore’ is a solid stone structure that was built in 1875. At 1pm daily, the black ball drops, signalling ships to rate their chronometers, vital navigation instruments. Similar towers were set up in many cities around the world.

Time Ball is a, today obsolete, time-signalling device. It consists of a large, painted wooden or metal ball that is dropped at a predetermined time, principally to enable navigators aboard ships offshore to verify the setting of their marine chronometers.

In Colombia, the four-sided Torre del Reloj gate grants access to the most charming part of Cartagena – a walled section of 18th-century mansions, leafy squares and street cafes.

The Torre del Reloj, or Clock Tower, was once the main gateway to the walled city. Construction started in 1601, and in 1631 the tower became the principal door to the city as the fortifications around the city were completed.

Port, Fortresses and Group of Monuments, Cartagena is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Piazza del Duomo (Cathedral Square) is a UNESCO World Heritage site. This walled 8.87-hectare area is recognized by Unesco as an important center of European medieval art. The square is dominated by four great religious edifices: the Pisa Cathedral, the Pisa Baptistry, the Campanile (leaning tower), and the Monumental Cemetery.

Akko (also known as Acre) is a city in the northern part of Israel. A city with a rich history as it is actually one of the oldest cities in the world, continuously inhabited since 4000 years.

Qutab Minar Tower | India

Qutab Minar is a 73 meters-high tower of victory, built in the early 13th century by Qutab-ud-din Aibak immediately after the defeat of Delhi's last Hindu kingdom. The tower has five distinct storeys. At the foot of the tower is the Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque, the first mosque to be built in India.

The tower is part of UNESCO World Heritage site incribed under the name Qutb Minar and its Monuments, Delhi.

Bode-Museum Berlin | Germany

Museum Island is the name of the northern half of an island in the Spree river in Berlin, Germany. This island is home to five different museums, built between 1824 and 1930.

The Bode museum displays a collection of sculptures, Byzantine art, and coins and medals.

Izmir Clock Tower | Turkey

The Izmir Clock Tower is a historic clock tower located at the Konak Square in İzmir, Turkey. The clock was built in 1901 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Sultan Abdul Hamid II’s accession to the throne.

Sant'Antioco Island | Italy

Sant'Antioco is the fourth largest Italian island, after Sicily, Sardinia and Elba. The island is located just off the coast of Sardinia and is connected by a causeway. Torre Canai is an old military tower built in 1757.

Torre de Belém | Portugal

The Belém tower was built in the sixteenth century in the Tagus river to control the entrance to the city from the sea. Today the tower is Lisbon’s popular tourist attraction.

The Torre de Belém is a UNESCO World Heritage site together with the Monastery of the Hieronymites, also located in Lisbon.

A stamp to celebrate the completion in 1614 of the autobiographical memoirs of Fernão Mendes Pinto (1509-1583), a Portuguese explorer and writer. His voyages are recorded in Pilgrimage (Peregrinação in Portugese).

Tunis, the Capital of Tunisia

Tunis is the capital and largest city of Tunisia. The name of the country is derived from the name of its capital. About 650,000 of the 11 million Tunisians live in Tunis.

Tower of old Panama's Cathedral

Panamá Viejo is the remaining part of the old Panama City and former capital of the country. It is located in the suburbs of the modern city. 

Together with the historical district of Panamá (Casco Viejo), it forms a World Heritage Site since 1997.
