Hälsingland is a small area of north-eastern Sweden, bordering the Gulf of Bothnia. It is known for its richly decorated, wooden farmhouses and associated farm buildings.

Decorated Farmhouses of Hälsingland is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Seven timber houses are listed, representing the zenith of a regional timber building tradition that dates back to the Middle Ages.

Grimeton Radio Station | Sweden

Grimeton Radio Station, Varberg is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Varberg Radio Station at Grimeton in southern Sweden (built 1922–24) is an exceptionally well-preserved monument to early wireless transatlantic communication. It consists of the transmitter equipment, including the aerial system of six 127-m high steel towers. Although no longer in regular use, the equipment has been maintained in operating condition.

Human beings have lived here for some five thousand years and adapted their way of life to the physical constraints of the island. As a consequence, the landscape is unique, with abundant evidence of continuous human settlement from prehistoric times to the present day.

Gammelstad Church Town | Sweden

Gammelstad Church Town is the best preserved example of a type of town that was once widespread throughout northern Scandinavia.

Church Town of Gammelstad, Luleå is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The wooden houses of the church town, huddled around the late 15th-century stone church, were used only on Sundays. Visitors of religious festivals used them as temporary overnight housing. These worshippers from the surrounding countryside, whose journeys home involved travelling long distances under difficult climatic conditions in a harsh natural environment.

The exact age of the Swedish Flag is not known, but the oldest recorded pictures of a blue cloth with a yellow cross date from the 16th century. Blue and yellow have been used as Swedish colours at least since King Magnus III's royal coat of arms of 1275.

The Birka archaeological site is located on Björkö Island in Lake Mälar and was occupied in the 9th and 10th centuries. Hovgården is situated on the neighbouring island of Adelsö. Together, they make up an archaeological complex which illustrates the elaborate trading networks of Viking-Age Europe and their influence on the subsequent history of Scandinavia.

The Great Copper Mountain was a copper mine in Falun, Sweden. The mine was in opareation from the 9th century until 1992. In the 17th century it became the major producer of copper in the world.

A by-product of the Great Copper Mountain in Falun are the natural pigments used for coloring the Falu Red Paint. This typical red paint is still popular in Finland, Norway and Sweden.

Royal Domain of Drottningholm is a Unesco world Heritage site. With its castle, perfectly preserved theatre (built in 1766), Chinese pavilion and gardens, it is the finest example of an 18th-century north European royal residence inspired by the Palace of Versailles.

Visby is the largest city on the Swedish Baltic Sea island of Gotland. Visby was the main centre of the Hanseatic League in the Baltic from the 12th to the 14th century.

Its 13th-century ramparts and more than 200 warehouses and wealthy merchants' dwellings from the same period make it the best-preserved fortified commercial city in northern Europe.

Stockholm is the capital and most populous city of Sweden, spreading out over 14 islands in Lake Mälaren and looks out to the Baltic Sea to the east.

Old Town (Gamla Stan) is the Stockholm’s original city centre. It dates back to the 13th century but most buildings are from the 17- and 1800s. It’s a labyrinth of charming cobbled streets, alleyways, faded mustard and rust coloured town houses and meeting squares reflecting north German architecture.

The Øresund Link is a bridge tunnel connecting Sweden to Denmark, which was opened in 2000. The opening of the Øresund Bridge meant that a journey across the water could be undertaken in one day. it is the longest road and rail bridge in Europe.

The history of the Swedish flag extends five hundred years back in time. It is believed to have been inspired by the Danish flag, Dannebrogen. The colors were taken from Sweden's small coat of arms, three golden crowns on a blue background.
