The Church of Saint-Nicolas of Ruská Bystrá is a Greek-catholic church located in the village of Ruská Bystrá in Slovakia. The church was build in 1730. 

Wooden Churches of the Slovak part of the Carpathian Mountain Area is a UNESCO World Heritage site. In total 8 wooden churches are listed. One of these is the Church of the Holy Trinity in Kežmarok.

The High Tatras | Slovakia

Along with its Polish part, the High Tatras is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 1993.

Domica is part of Caves of Aggtelek Karst and Slovak Karst, a UNESCO World Heritage site.  The Caves of Aggtelek Karst and Slovak Karst are outstanding for the large number of complex, diverse and relatively intact caves concentrated into a relatively small area. The 700 caves are located at the north-eastern border of Hungary and the south-eastern border of Slovakia.

Beech Forests of the Carpathians | Slovakia

Ancient and Primeval Beech Forests of the Carpathians and Other Regions of Europe is a UNESCO World Heritage site. This transboundary property stretches over 12 countries including Slovakia.

Since the end of the last Ice Age, European Beech spread from a few isolated refuge areas over a short period of a few thousand years in a process that is still ongoing.

Kežmarok – Church of the Holy Trinity | Slovakia

One of the best preserved Slovak wooden sacral buildings is the Evangelical Church of the Holy Trinity in Kežmarok.

In 2008, along with seven other wooden churches, it was included on the UNESCO Word Heritage List.

The Old Town Hall in Levoča | Slovakia

Levoča is a town in eastern Slovakia with a population of 14,600. The origins of the old Town Hall in Levoča dates back to the 15th century. The gothic building was destroyed almost completely in 1550 during a fire.

The historic town-centre of Levoča is part of UNESCO World Heritage site Levoča, Spišský Hrad and the Associated Cultural Monument.

Vlkolínec | Slovakia

Vlkolínec, situated in the centre of Slovakia, is a remarkably intact settlement of 45 buildings with the traditional features of a central European village. It is the region’s most complete group of these kinds of traditional log houses, often found in mountainous areas.

The ruins of Spiš Castle | Slovakia

The ruins of Spiš Castle in eastern Slovakia form one of the largest castle sites in Central Europe. This is one of the biggest European castles by area (41 426 m²). On the left you see St. Martin's Cathedral in nearby Spišská Kapitula.

Both are part of the UNESCO World Heritage site inscribed under the name‘ Levoča, Spišský Hrad and the Associated Cultural Monuments’.

The old mining town Banská Štiavnica | Slovakia

Banská Štiavnica is the oldest mining town in Slovakia. Large scale mining started in Banska Stiavnica in the 12th century, profiting from its location in the middle of an immense caldera created by the collapse of an ancient volcano. From the 15th century on the silver mined here brought great wealth. 

The Historic Town of Banská Štiavnica and the Technical Monuments in its Vicinity is a UNESCO World Heritage site. 

Wooden Churches in Slovakia

Wooden churches of the Slovak Carpathians Mountain Area is the name of a UNESCO World Heritage Site that consists of nine wooden churches in Slovakia. The churches, built between the 16th and 18th centuries, are located in eight different locations in Slovakia.

In addition to these churches there are about 50 more wooden churches in the territory of present-day Slovakia. None of the listed churched are on this postcard.

The Slovak Republic is a landlocked state in Central Europe.  It has a population of over five million and an area of about 49,000 square kilometres (19,000 sq mi). Slovakia is bordered by the Czech Republic and Austria to the west, Poland to the north, Ukraine to the east and Hungary to the south.

Not only is Bratislava the largest city in Slovakia, it also serves as the state capital. It borders with Hungary in the south and with Austria in the west.
