Grand Peterhof Palace, Upper garden | Russia

The card pictures the Church of Peter and Paul in the Grand Peterhof Palace, Upper garden. The Peterhof Palace is a series of palaces and gardens located in Petergof, Saint Petersburg, commissioned by Peter the Great as a direct response to the Palace of Versailles by Louis XIV of France.

Historic Centre of Saint Petersburg and Related Groups of Monuments is a UNESCO World Heritage site. One of the component parts of this site is the Historical Centre of the Town of Peterhof, including the Palace and Park.

Strelninsky Palace, Tsarskoye Selo ("Tsar's Village"), the Pavlovsk Palace, Kronstadt and Yekaterininsky Palace are also part of this site.

Konstantin palace | Russian Federation

Konstantin palace (since 2003 - The National Congress Palace) is a beautiful monument of architecture and landscape art located on the picturesque coastline of the Gulf of Finland, less than 20 km away from the centre of St. Petersburg.

Historic Centre of Saint Petersburg and Related Groups of Monuments is a UNESCO World Heritage site. One of the component parts of this site is the Historical Centre of the Village of Strelna, including Strelninsky Palace.

Cathedral of the Dormition (Astrakhan) | Russia

The Astrakhan Kremlin is a fortress in Astrakhan, Russia. It is located on a hill on an island in the Volga Delta. Its origins date bate almost 500 years. The main cathedral of the Astrakhan Kremlin is considered to be one of the best examples of Russian church architecture of the early 18th century.

Ensemble of the Astrakhan Kremlin is on the Tentative list of Unesco World Heritage sites.

The Golden Gate | Russia

Bakhchisaray Cave Monastery | Russia

The Assumption Monastery of the Caves is located in Crimea, near Bakhchysarai. It is a cave monastery carved out of a cliff dating back to the 15th century.

In 1921 the monastery was closed by the Soviet government. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union and Ukrainian independence the monastery was reopened to the public in 1993.

Church Vasiliya na gorke | Russia

Pskov is one of the oldest cities in Russia. Located about 20 kilometers from the Estonian border, on the Velikaya River.

Churches of the Pskov School of Architecture is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Characteristics of these buildings, produced by the Pskov School of Architecture, include cubic volumes, domes, porches and belfries, with the oldest elements dating back to the 12th century. Onde of these churches is Church Vasiliya na gorke (St. Basil the Great on the hill).

Landscapes of Dauria | Russia

Landscapes of Dauria is a UNESCO World Heritage site for both Russia and Mongolia. The Dauria landscapes contains substantial and relatively undisturbed areas of different types of steppe, ranging from grassland to forest, as well as many lakes and wetlands.

Landscapes of Dauria is a resting place for 3 million migratory birds and home to rare animal species such as the endangered tarbagan marmot, the white-naped crane and the swan goose.

Sviyazhsk Island | Russia

With an area spanning 62 hectares, the island town of Sviyazhsk is located on a hill in the estuary of the Sviyaga River, some 19 miles from Tatarstan's capital of Kazan. It was founded as a fortress by Ivan the Terrible in 1551.

The Pulkovo Astronomical Observatory  is located 19 km south of Saint Petersburg. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Historic Centre of Saint Petersburg and Related Groups of Monuments.

Wilhelm von Struve was the founder and its first director. We know him from The Struve Geodetic Arc, another UNESCO World Heritage site.

Koryaksky volcano | Russia

Koryaksky is an active volcano on the Kamchatka Peninsula in the Russian Far East. The volcanoes of Kamchatka are a large group of volcanoes situated on the Kamchatka Peninsula. The Kamchatka River and the surrounding central side valley are flanked by large volcanic belts containing around 160 volcanoes.

Volcanoes of Kamchatka is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Monastery of Sts. Boris & Gleb in Torzhok | Russia

The town of Torzhok is known for its ensembles of neoclassical architecture. A favorable location on the Tvertsa River just above its confluence with the Volga made Torzhok one of Russia’s oldest trading centers. The town’s name derives from the word torg, or "trade."

Im not sure if this city was a full member of the Hanseatic League or just a Kontor.

Western Caucasus | Russia

Its subalpine and alpine pastures have only been grazed by wild animals, and its extensive tracts of undisturbed mountain forests are unique in Europe. The Pavlovsk Palace | Russia

The Pavlovsk Palace is an 18th-century Russian Imperial residence built by the order of Catherine the Great for her son, Grand Duke Paul. The palace and the large English garden surrounding it are now a Russian state museum and public park.

Pavlovsk is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Saint Petersburg and Related Groups of Monuments.

Sikhote-Alin mountain range | Russia


Postcard
The Sikhote-Alin mountain range contains one the richest and most unusual temperate forests of the world. In this mixed zone between taiga and subtropics, southern species such as the tiger and Himalayan bear cohabit with northern species such as the brown bear and lynx.

The site stretches from the peaks of Sikhote-Alin to the Sea of Japan and is important for the survival of many endangered species such as the Amur tiger.
